Construction of a primary school in Kyine Don

Location: Kyine Don, a largely subsistence farming area in the Pin Laung District, in the south of Shan State

Name: Maximilian Wäsler School

The location

Kyine Don is located in Pin Laung District, in the south of Shan State. Kyine Don is a rural district and is located inland, about 115 km south of Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State.

The school location is accessible by car all year round and is an area declared safe by the government.

The people

The village was founded some 100 years ago and today has a population of 570 inhabitants. This makes it home to 203 households.

The inhabitants of the village are mainly engaged in agriculture for self-sufficiency.

The School

Construction of a primary school in Kyine Don in Myanmar for 160 children aged 5-10 years with four classrooms including school furniture. The currently existing school building for 74 students with two classrooms is dilapidated and in danger of collapsing. It urgently needs to be replaced by a new building.

Currently, six part-time teachers are employed at the school. The government of Myanmar will cover the training and salaries of the teachers financially as well as provide the curriculum and teaching materials.

Sustainability Strategy

Child’s Dream always involves the community in the projects to promote ownership and community development. For this project, the community has agreed to help with the transportation of building materials, to fill in the foundation area and to provide some of the building materials, including gravel, stones and water.

The community will also be responsible for the maintenance of the school after completion of the construction work.

Laying of the foundation stone

With the establishment of an adequate educational institution EduCare e.V. wants to improve the quality of learning and life for the children of the Kyine Don community.

The foundation stone was laid in September 2020.

Inauguration

The new primary school in Kyine Don will strengthen the right of children to a good education and is an important pillar against poverty. Poverty prevents education, education prevents poverty.

The inauguration was planned for February 2021, but was delayed until summer 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The school will be named Maximilian Wäsler school.
