Name: Julia Hartinger School
The Location
Alto Anapati is a rural community in the rainforests of the Amazon. It is located in the Pangoa district within the province of Satipo. It is a very remote region.
The People
The community consists of 86 families with 455 people belonging to the ethnic group of the Nomatsiguenga.
After turbulent years, the region is characterised by enormous poverty and poor infrastructure. The government has paid very little attention to the community in the past.
The School
Construction of a pre-school in Alto Anapati in Peru for 90 children consisting of three classrooms, a kitchen, a teachers’ room, sanitary and material rooms, a multi-functional room and an outdoor playground and sports field.
The Peruvian Ministry of Education has agreed to pay three teachers for the project and will provide the school with learning materials.
Sustainability Strategy
The cornerstone of the new school building is respect for the local customs of the indigenous population. Semillas actively involves the community in all construction measures. The building is constructed with material and helpers that are available locally. The result is architecture with its own values and close local ties.
Laying of the foundation stone
With the establishment of an adequate educational institution EduCare e.V. wants to improve the quality of learning and life for the children of the indigenous community of Alto Anapati. The planning started in November 2019. The foundation stone was laid in April 2021.
Inauguration
The new pre-school in Alto Anapati will strengthen the right of children to a good education and is an important pillar against poverty. Poverty prevents education, education prevents poverty. The inauguration was planned for October / November 2020, but was postponed to summer 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The school was inaugurated in August 2021. The school is named Julia Hartinger School.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to attend the inauguration ceremony in person. Therefore, Ute and Julia Hartinger recorded their congratulations in a video message that was played to the enthusiastic community at the inauguration ceremony.
